Toddle On

Rachel's To the Beach (pretty bad picture here since I can't find one online) by Janlynn wraps up the last UFORR.

As it arrived:

As it goes out:

I had a bit of an issue with this one. A few hours in I realized that certain places weren't matching up and then I figured out that a stitch had been off. And I had picked that stitch to start from. Grrrrr.

So to wrap up: Would I do another UFORR? You bet. It's an excellent chance to work on designs I'd never otherwise touch. And sometimes you get sucked into adding to your stash anyway. Plus you can't beat having someone else get you over the block on whatever piece you're stuck on. And there's none of the stress of a trying to come up with a layout like in a themed RR.

Cons? Well, you really have to be able to keep up. The ones I've done have 6 weeks (post takes up some of that time). But if you lose your mojo it just sucks. And you may end up working on something you don't care for. I've been lucky, all the ones I've worked on are interesting in some way. Also depending on how tight finances are the postal costs can add up. If it's a well run RR then the mail will be tracked and depending on where you're mailing to it may get expensive.

So why am I not participating in another one? Have you seen my WIP list? And my next up/short list? I need to get some of my oldies out of the way.

An excellent place to go is the TWRoundRobin board, which runs both UFORRs and themed RRs throughout the year. But think about it several times because it is a serious long-term(ish) commitment.

She looks great, Blu!! Thank you so much for your progress! :)

And I agree with you, UFORRs are amazing! I am not doing another one for awhile, just because of the time commitment issue right now, but I won't hesitate to do another one when I get some WIPs done, lol. I love that they help us get over the "stitcher's block" we can have on certain projects. It's also nice to connect with people around the world, and to think all these wonderful stitchers helped finish our projects. :)

You really got a long ways on this project!

I appreciate your info on UFORR's. I was wondering how they worked and how much of a commitment they are. Too much for me at this time - not enough time.

I think it would be hard to work on something you really didn't like, but I guess it's only for a short time.

I did pieces for a friend. They were quilt blocks. I found that I worked quickly on the ones I liked, but a little slower on the ones I didn't care for. LOL Sort of backwards -- you would think you would want to get DONE the ones that weren't so special.

What a beautiful piece of work! I love the colors. I'm sure you'll be missed in your UFORR group. Your goal sounds exactly like mine for the up-coming year...I am determined to clear out some my WIP's that are coming dangerously close to being UFO's. Here's hoping we both are amazed with our 2012 finishes.

It looks great! The two RRs that I participated in years ago both went awry and I've sworn them off for good. It's nice to hear that they go well--despite the frogging that you had to do!

What a cool way to do RR! I will be in my first just after the new year, it's not quite this style- (working on the same, large piece) but I like the idea...maybe I will toss that out and see what the others have to say :) Great stitching, btw
